Why Do A Bible Bootcamp?
The Scripture is a necessary first, middle, and final step for anyone pursuing a proper understanding of God. As a matter of fact, the pursuit of Christian sanctification without a continuous reliance on Scripture is indistinguishable from any other secular moralism. We, as followers of Christ in pursuit of unity with His body, must follow those "God-inspired" words so that we may grow in all ways proper to a Christian:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
–2 Timothy 3:16-17
As such, we ought to pursue the Bible Study Bootcamp. This will allow for any students of the Lord to know Him more fully and grow in their sanctification.
What Makes Bible Bootcamp Unique?
How does such a Bible Study student benefit from the Bootcamp? Here are some bountiful benefits that it will provide for you:
- Serve as a continual reminder of the immanent factuality of God's existence: Allowing the factual God to affect our practical behavior. Spirit influences flesh.
- Act as a continual reminder of our own status before a Holy, Pure, Perfect God: We are sinners who continue to require God's grace as we grow in unity with Him. Sanctification.
- Bolster your knowledge of God's plan amidst a changing and suffering world: God foresaw the suffering and yet makes a way for good to come about all the same.
- Formulate an accurate Biblical Worldview rather than a Biblical lens: Rather than simply "adding" the Bible to parts of our culture and our lives, we see the Bible as the foundation, and see all else through it.
The Power of God's Word in Daily Life
In each and every one of our lives, the realities of sin, death, and disorder become apparent and constant. As a result, simply knowing and quoting a few verses (often out of context, let’s be honest, ha!) to the suffering–ourselves or others–will do little in changing the world around us. However, in having the Lord's Word abide in our hearts daily with a proper understanding of the words always, we shall see a powerful change be affected within us and others.
The Difference Between Bible Bootcamp And Seminary
Seminary entails an education of great depth with specific courses towards the outcome of a degree, generally taking years. But for those of you who would appreciate a more rapid and focused introduction to Bible reading, that is the focused beauty of the Bible Bootcamp.
God's Word at Your Pace: Tailoring Your Journey Through the Entire Bible
Why Understanding the Entire Bible is Key to Spiritual Growth
If the Scripture is true regarding the claims of 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ("All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."), then it should be clear that we need to understand all Scripture in order to be rebuked in our sin, corrected from wrong understanding, taught in right understanding, and trained in righteousness. Without the Scripture, we are lacking in our spiritual food, which is "every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." –Jesus in Matthew 4:4
Setting Your Bible Study Pace with Our Flexible Program
In the Bible Bootcamp program, you can choose to set a pace that works best for you. Have a 9-to-5 that lowers your availability to the evening or early morning? We can make that work! Do you need to account for the schedule of your children? By all means! Whatever your busy schedule, what we hope to do in our Bootcamp is work with you to establish a pursuit of consistency in your Bible study, no matter what that consistency may look like for you.
Bible Study Bootcamp: Not Your Ordinary Bible Study Group
How Small Groups Enhance Your Bible Study Experience
Study after study affirm what common sense already declares: small groups help motivate us to continue our reading, and keep us accountable when we fail to do so. While many of us will let ourselves skip out on a personal Bible study, it is a greater challenge to skip when others are aware of what you ought to be reading. Furthermore, it allows for fellowship and a true "provoking to love and good works" –Hebrews 10:24.
A Closer Look at Our Bible Bootcamp Method
The Context is Key: Deepening Your Understanding of Scripture
The most important three words in real estate are: “Location. Location. Location.”
The most important three words in reading the Bible are: “Context. Context. Context.”
Context is one of the most important aspects of proper Biblical study. Often, we (as modern, 21st century Christians) forget that the various events surrounding our favorite verses in Scripture are quite different from our own historical moment. However, as you might have guessed, there is a massive difference in culture and history between the times of the Biblical writers and now. Not only that, but a variety of other contexts proper to any written medium.
The four contexts we ought to consider for any passage of Scripture are as follows:
- Literary Context: What is the genre of the writing being read? (be it poetry, prose, historical narrative, prophetic literature, etc.)
- Local Context: What are the verses/events which precede and follow the verse or chapter of focus, and what events are happening as this verse is being said, and why?
- Historical Context: What historical or cultural events/traditions were happening at that time, and how do they impact the setting of the verses?
- Expanded Context: In the scope of the entire Bible, how does this verse fit into the greater Biblical narrative? (such as theological points of reflection, cross-references to other books of the Bible, verses in apparent "tension" with each other, etc.).
So why is context so important? For starters, consider the following verse:
“There is no God.” (Psalm 14:1b)
Now if some tried to say that the Bible is contradictory by citing this verse to you, it ought to be clear that they have taken this verse portion out of context. If they have maintained the local context, they would have pointed out that the whole verse is:
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. (Psalms 14:1)
In the same way that a proper understanding of local context helped us here to dispel the original "out-of-context" citation, a consistent awareness of context can save us from making the same mistakes. Through our Bible Bootcamp, we pray that you will grow in a greater understanding of the context which informs the Lord's Scripture.
