Cast Your Cares on Him

What It Means To Cast Your Cares on Him

When you need help, the source of your rescue is Jesus! He is the Lord and Creator of everything, who came to be born sinless, be crucified to take our punishment on Himself, to rise again, alive from the dead, so that you can find salvation for your soul!

Casting all your cares on Jesus means setting them before the Lord, who has the power and authority to carry you through them. When you look to Him, He is the answer to every need and the place to leave every care and anxiety.

How Can I Cast My Cares on the Lord Jesus Christ?

Peter 5:1 says, "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time, He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you." Acknowledging that you cannot labor hard enough to fix your troubles is humility.

Christ loves you! He wants you to experience the peace and joy that comes from trusting Him with the difficulties and complexities of life. He is a loving Father, waiting to carry your burdens and anxieties for you!

1. Release All Your Anxiety

Understanding the power and authority of Jesus gives you a safe place to cast all your care, worry, and anxiety. He has the deepest affection for you and has the might to sustain you. The better you know God, the more you can trust Him, and the more natural it becomes to cast your concerns into His care.

2. Prayer

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus spent time teaching His disciples a pattern for prayer. Christ teaches that one should worship, give thanks, confess sins, and ask Him for your needs and for the expression of His will in your life. Prayer is your opportunity to come to Jesus in humility, cast all your anxiety on Him, and leave any burden that you have in His righteous care.

3. Get Into Reading the Bible

Reading and studying God's Word is how you grow in faith and find peace in casting all your care upon the Lord. In the book of Matthew, chapter 6, verse 25, Jesus says, "Do not be anxious about your life." In verses 31 and 32, He lists many of the needs we worry about and explains that "Your Heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you."

As you read the Bible, look up the cross-references in the verses to find even more encouragement. Another great tool is a Concordance, which has the definition of each Hebrew and Greek word from the passages. You can find these tools at a local bookstore, or at a publishing ministry, such as Crossway Books, a division of Good News Publishers, in Wheaton, IL.

Your soul can be comforted by reading Romans, chapter 8 verse 28; "And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose." The key to casting all your cares and being able to find rest and hope, is seeking Christ Jesus in His word. The Bible is where you find rest for your soul!

4. Ask God for Wisdom

In God's Word, James says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." God cares about your needs, and knows that you need His help to pray with wisdom.

He wants to give wisdom when you ask and He will hear and answer. When important decisions must be made, there is often much anxiety! God knows this and invites you to set your worries and care upon Him and be blessed resting in His provision of wisdom.

5. Don't Give Into Fear

The devil prowls as a roaring lion, speaking lies and fear. Choosing to be sober-minded and fill your ears with God's truth helps you move past the worries of life and cast all your anxiety on Him.

Rehearsing your fears and worries reinforces them. Jesus invites you to "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matthew 11: 28-30 ESV

Why Should I Cast All My Cares on Jesus Christ?

The nature of life is that it is full of stresses and needs. Often you must navigate difficulties and anxieties that seem insurmountable. When you entrust your cares to Him, He provides peace and reassurance.

1. He Cares for Us

Everything God does for humanity is because of His care for them! His provision of comfort, strength, wisdom, peace, and healing are ALL given because of His care for you.

2. He Comforts Us

Jesus experienced the same hardships that all people experience, and He gives comfort knowing exactly what you are feeling; both because He is God, and knows everything, and because He has suffered in the same way.

His heart desires to comfort you as you practice setting all your anxiety, your burdens, and your care into His strong hands.

3. He Strengthens Us

God understands that you need His provision of strength. He strengthens you "with all power according to His glorious might", says the apostle Paul in Colossians chapter 1. Psalm 18 says "God equipped me with strength".

When your strength is small, His power is infinite! Psalm 28:8 ESV ~ "The Lord is the strength of His people, He is the saving refuge of His anointed!"

4. He Provides for Us

Philippians 4: 19 says, "And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus". Your needs may be great, but the Lord has infinite riches from which to abundantly provide.

You can cast your worries on Him knowing that He will sustain you with all that you need for your good and His glory.

5. He Gives us Wisdom

Jesus promises wisdom when we don't know what to do! Much of our worry and distress come directly from confusion about finding the best solution.....God's word directly offers His wisdom when we ask!

James 1:5 ESV "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." Your good God is eager to generously give wisdom, so find rest from your confusion by asking Him.

6. He Heals Us

God cares about every part of you. He is faithful to help with anxiety and stress, and is powerful to heal both physical and mental illnesses.

Medical studies demonstrate the link between stress and anxiety and serious illness. You can improve every aspect of your health by practicing the discipline of casting all your cares and concerns to the Lord.

Why is Casting All Your Anxieties to the Lord Important?

Jesus Christ has the answer to all of your questions and offers the strength and courage to navigate all your burdens and all your difficulties. The Bible teaches all the ways that God provides for the needs of His people through His own righteous character.

In the Scriptures and in prayer, you can find the reassurance to step away from trying to control all the cares that consume and begin casting all your cares upon Jesus.

Conclusion

Renewing your mind through God's Word, and through the writings of His people is a great place to begin learning the habit of casting all your cares upon the Lord.

These words are from a tract that Good News Publishers distributes called "Someone Cares for You": "You are not alone. God's strong and loving hand is reaching down right now to grasp your weak and trembling one.

He knows all about your present circumstances, and His voice is whispering, "Do not let your hearts be troubled" (John 14:1).

God stands ready to comfort and strengthen you no matter what the need. Yes, the promise of God's presence is a wonderful assurance to all who are His. He has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5).

The all-knowing, all-powerful, infinitely loving Savior wants to bear all your anxiety, all your cares, and all your worries. Jesus calls you to cast them upon Him and see His salvation.
